Minnehaha Parents & Families,

I hope everyone has been enjoying this great weather we’ve had lately!  As the days slowly get longer and the frogs get louder, I’m frequently reminded of how quickly the school year goes by.  We’ve officially hit that halfway point of the year last month, and are working hard to cover content & standards prior to the state assessments which are just around the corner…

Speaking of assessments, we’ve now started the annual English Language Proficiency Assessments, also known as ELPA.  For those of you who have students receiving ELL services, your child will be assessed in areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Our ELL teacher, Mrs. Paveglio, along with our Literacy Facilitator, Kristi Hickey, will be working throughout the month of February to administer the assessments in the different areas.  As we have over 100 students to assess, it will take much of the month.  If you have any questions about the ELPA, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

And… at this point, your child likely has completed his/her Winter iReady assessment in Reading and/or Math.  These midyear benchmark assessments provide valuable information about your child’s growth and progress.  Once complete, your child’s teacher will be able to share this progress with you.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher directly with any questions, comments, concerns – or praises (they like to hear those!).

Happy February,

Troy
