Minnehaha Parents & Families,

Happy Spring!  With the especially-wet weather we’ve been having, please remember to send your child each day prepared for the weather.  Except in extreme situations – including when our playground is more like a wetlands – we go outside for recesses.  This means boots, rain coats, umbrellas, etc. are a must!

While we do have a large covered area for students to access, most of our students enjoy playing in the rain and splashing in puddles.  As we all know, however, sitting in class in wet clothes can be very uncomfortable and can become a distraction from learning.  Thank you for your partnerships in this area.

Coming soon – Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) testing schedule.  Our Literacy Facilitator & Testing Coordinator, Mrs. Hickey, is in the process of working on a building testing schedule that will be shared with parents and families.  Currently, Washington state assesses all 3rd through 5th grade students in ELA & Math each Spring.  Additionally, all 5th graders will participate in the state science assessment, the MSP.  Please know that we will work to ensure all parents and families are aware of this testing schedule so that you can support and help prepare for testing days.

As you may have noticed, we are working hard to ensure that all students and families are safe in the mornings in our parking lot.  The additional cones are meant to ensure that cars are not weaving back and forth in the drop-off lane, which had been occurring and creating some less-than-ideal safety situations.  Please remember that the far-right lane is for drop-off only.  Vehicles in this lane are to pull up as far as possible before dropping off.  Thank you for your patience and assistance as we work to ensure the safety for Minne students and families!

Spring Break is right around the corner – next Friday, May 31 is the last day of school before Break.  School will resume again on Monday, April 10.  Whether you are traveling near, far, or staying in Vancouver – I hope you and your family have a fun, relaxing, memory-filled Spring Break, and come back energized for the home stretch!
