Minnehaha Parents & Families,

Happy Spring Break!  Whether you and your family are going somewhere far away, or staying close, I hope you have a restful & enjoyable Spring Break with family and friends.  When our students return on April 9, we begin the final and BUSY two-month home stretch of the school year – whether we’re ready or not!

Smarter Balanced Assessments:

Beginning in mid-April, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will begin taking the Smarter-Balanced (SBA) annual assessments.  These state-mandated assessments measure proficiency in English language arts (ELA) and Math.  While these can potentially bring a bit of anxiety and nervousness for some students, our teachers work hard to keep our students relaxed and excited about the opportunity to show what they know.  Your child’s teacher will have the most up-to-date scheduling information for your child’s class.  It is important that you are aware of when your child will be testing, so that you can schedule appointments around those dates, and also partner with us as we work to set students up for success!

Included in this newsletter is a letter to families, which our teachers will also be sending home.  It includes important information about SBA practice opportunities for students that can be accessed online from home.  We strongly encourage parents & families to take advantage of this with students, to continue to help students feel confident and prepared for the testing format.

On another note… our very own Mrs. Reed will be transitioning from Minnehaha to her next adventure in her role as the new secretary for the District’s Communication director at the District’s administration offices.  We will miss her very much, but are excited for her continued leadership and support for all of VPS students!

Enjoy the Break!
