Minnehaha Parents & Families,

With our Smarter Balanced Assessments ramping up here next week, I just wanted to encourage you to take a few minutes to encourage your kiddos before & during testing.  Supporting them by encouragement and positivity can go a long way.

We know from growth mindset research the power of our words.  Saying “I’m so sorry you have to take that test today… hang in there!” has a much different impact than saying “I’m excited that you have the opportunity to show everything you’ve learned – I know you are going to rock it!”  Our kids take a lot of cues from the adults around them – despite your personal views and feelings on the state assessments, your support with your kiddos is huge!

See the updated Smarter Balanced assessment testing schedule included in this newsletter for dates.  As always, watch for classroom communication for the most up-to-date schedule, including ways that your teacher is asking for your support from home!

In true Pacific Northwest fashion, I observed several of our students shrinking back from the large, yellow object in the sky today, confused by its presence.  Here’s to hoping that we’re in for a dose of warm, sunny days ahead!
